One person, one record

Somebody who donates, volunteers, and sits on your board is one record here, not three. Volunteers and board members keep their own working areas, and each is linked back to the same person, so you never have to remember which of three lists holds the current phone number.

Individual
A person.
Organization
A nonprofit, association, or other body that is not a foundation or a company.
Foundation
A grantmaking body.
Corporation
A company, whether it gives, sponsors, or buys.
Government
An agency at any level.

Moves: the plan, not the history

A move is a planned contact with a purpose and a date. Not a note about what happened, a commitment about what you are going to do. There are eighteen kinds, chosen from a fixed list rather than typed freely, and the reason for the fixed list is what it lets you see.

Every move creates a linked task in the Action Center, so doing the work in either place completes it in both. A move with a date also appears on your Deadline Board, because a planned contact by a date is a commitment.

Prospect intelligence

For major gifts, a constituent can be scored as a prospect. The score asks five things, and all five are required, because capacity on its own produces a list of rich strangers and calls it a pipeline.

Bringing donors in

Import from a spreadsheet through Integrations. The import matches against people you already have rather than creating a second copy of everybody, and shows you the matches it proposes before writing anything.
