Getting started
What FundWisr is
An honest description of what this software does, what it does not do, and the one idea that makes the rest of it make sense.
The short version
FundWisr is a workspace for running a nonprofit. It holds your organization's real records (your revenue, your donors, your programs, the people you serve, your staff and volunteers, your board, your properties, your risks) and it reads across all of them to tell you what is working, what is exposed, and what to do next.
It is not a fundraising CRM with reports bolted on, and it is not a consultant in a box. It is closer to an operating system: the tools are separate rooms, but they share one set of records, so what you enter in one room changes what another room can tell you.
What it will not do
Being clear about this now saves you a frustrating week later.
- It will not file anything for you. FundWisr prepares documents, tracks deadlines, and tells you what is missing. It does not submit your 990, your state registration, or a grant application.
- It is not legal, tax, or investment advice. The Risk & Compliance Center will tell you that a policy is missing and generate a draft. A lawyer still has to read it.
- It will not invent your data. A diagnostic score built on four revenue sources you entered honestly is useful. One built on nothing is a blank page with a number on it.
- It is not a bank or a payment processor. Finance tracks what money did. It does not move any.
Who it is for
The software is built for the person who is responsible for the whole organization and does not have a department for each part of it. That is usually an executive director, a founder, a development director wearing three hats, or a consultant working across several organizations at once.
Everybody else on your team gets a narrower view. A board member sees governance and finance summaries. A program lead sees programs and their own assigned work. A volunteer never enters the main workspace at all, only the volunteer portal. See Your team and what each role can see.
How to read this manual
- Part 1 (this part) is setup and orientation. Read it in order.
- Part 2 onward is one chapter per module. Read the chapter for the module you are in. They do not depend on each other.
- Anything in
this typefaceis a label you will see on your own screen, spelled the way the software spells it. - Every chapter has an On this page list on the right. On a phone it sits at the top, under the title.
- Copy page at the top of each chapter copies the whole chapter as plain text, so you can paste it into an email or a board packet.
